THE PALACE OF ILLUSIONS - Chitra Banerjee Divakruni (Book Review)

My, my, my...what has this book done to me? What is it that it makes me feel since the past 3 days that I've started this book? So full, so eager, so curious, so consumed, so spirited, so agitated, so loved, so pining for love, so, so so much and finally so empty as soon as I finished my read.  Chitra Banerjee is such a story-teller, and above all the theme of The Palace of Illusions is one of my all-time favourites and amongst this true to life humongous epic, the character of Draupadi is my absolute favourite. Krishna's response on Panchaali's asking about Sikhandi and her belief in her past life, "He believes it to be so. Isn't that what truth is? The force of a person's believing seeps into those around him - into the very earth and air and water - until there's nothing else."..."...we all have past lives, highly evolved beings remember them, while lesser souls forget..." I'm sure Draupadi's, or you may call her Panchaali'...

Men Without Women - Haruki Murakami (Book Review)

Did Haruki Murakami intend this book only for those of his gender or for all of us? - Well, to get the answer, you will need to read this book.  As the name suggests, Men Without Women , the collection of seven stories by Murakami , revolve around the men of the world without their women. Each story is extremely deep and in the most subtle way depicts the world of the main character with the existential crisis brought in by the absence of the woman in his life. My most favourite among the seven stories is the story of Kino , he being the complete regular another man in this world with almost everything about his life being the most casual and ordinary. Though, takes numerous incidents to realize how what he thought least affected him was the very reason of all the unrealized pain deep inside his heart. The story telling is beautifully intriguing. The other very extra-ordinary story, in my opinion is of the plastic surgeon Dr. Tokai . This one is plotted around the ancient belief ...

And the Mountains Echoed - Khaled Hosseini (Book Review)

How does eternal longing feel like?  Do we humans actually get to shape our destinies or are we mere puppets at the hand of fate? If blood is thicker than water , why would familial relationships be tested by the challenges of life? All these and so many more questions my mind asks me while I read through pages after pages; plots after plots of this absolutely intriguing novel by Khaled Hosseini . The novel is an intricate piece of numerous sub-plots; like story of Saboor with his first wife and then with the second one; story of Parwana and Masooma ; almost the main plot of Abdullah and his younger sister Pari ; story of Suleiman Wahdati , his wife Nila Wahdati and Nabi ; story of Nila and her family; story of Nila and Pari; story of the Bashiri brothers ; story of Markos Varvaris , his mom and Thaliya ; story of Mandeline and Thaliya; Story of Pari and Julien ; Story of Pari and Julien and their children; Story of Iqbal and his family; Story of the Commander Sahib and Adel ;...

Final Offer - Lauren Asher (Dreamland Billionaires)

Final Offer is the third and the last book in the series of Dreamland Billionaires by the bestselling author Lauren Asher . Well, well, well...Dreamland Billionaires is worth a read. It has been a tremendous series appertaining to the  Will of Brady Kane  and how it turns the lives of all four alive men of his family upside down. Before actually commenting anything about the third book in the series, let me pen down some generals that I've been thinking across these three books. The main character in each book is obviously one of Brady Kane's grandson - to begin with Rowan  (the youngest), Declan  (the eldest) and finally Callahan  (the middle one). The stories revolve around the task, rather the arduous task assigned to each one of them for them to be able to secure their inheritance and position in the Kane Company ; with one common antagonist - Seth Kane - the son of Brady Kane and the father of these three lead characters in their respective ...

Terms And Conditions - Lauren Asher (Dreamland Billionaires)

The second book in the series of Dreamland Billionaires by Lauren Asher.  "its not too late to start making better decisions" "why would she stay? You never gave her a good reason to after the way you spoke to her." "Ya'aburnee" "I'll give you anything you want - anything at all - so long as you give me a chance to make you as happy as you make me. A dog. A family. A home. I want it all. These are my terms and conditions , take it or leave it because I'm not open to negotiations." Could there be a relationship with Terms and Conditions applied to? In the current century this question wouldn't trigger even a fraction of surprise or shock in anyone. Probably with digitalization and artificial intelligence taking over almost all walks of our lives, it is only considered normal to think about conditionality in all spheres - seems like human behaviour and relationships are being re-crafted by AI ensuring a step-by-step clear process ma...

It Ends with Us & It Starts with Us - Book Reviews

It Starts with Us is a sequel of Colleen Hoover's It Ends with Us! Both are super romances depicting the wonderful character disposition of Lily Bloom. A simple girl with a difficult childhood being a witness to an abusive father and a suffering mother. Lily is not won over by her circumstances and grows up to fulfil his dream of owning her own business in Boston - the city of her dreams or like Lily and Atlas put it - where everything is better! It Ends with Us is a captivating, intense love story between Lily Bloom a young business woman and the charming Ryle Kincaid - the neurosurgeon. It is by chance that Allysa walks into Lily's flower shop and offers to help Lily and gets hired on the spot. Its only in a matter of time that Lily discovers Allysa to be Ryle's sister and forms a kin with her and her husband Marshall. While Ryle and Lily are neck deep in love with each other, Ryle also has a dark side when it comes to relationships and that slowly gets revealed before Li...

Love Redesigned - Book Review

Hey...this one was read by me a long long ago, but missed writing my review for it. Hence, I re-read it and here I'm after an arresting, stirring, absorbing and riveting experience having had again. This is one of the Lakefront Billionaires written by the international best selling author - Lauren Asher!  It is this book that made me read more of Lauren Asher.     Built around the scenic Lake Wisteria, this story is all about nostalgia. The un-modernized Historic District, Festival Fair Grounds, Founder's House and beautiful farms and main city. It's here that the protagonists grow up and then kind of loose touch due to a sequence of enticing events that take place in their lives. Julian Lopez and Dahlia Munoz have been crafted with a lot of creativity and detail. While both have been schoolmates and family friends growing up together and pranking each other, life brings a digression and both are moved distant from each other. Dahlia continues to pursue college, but...

The Fine Print - Book Review

It feels so good to have got the time out to read through one more dark work-place romance. This one is by Lauren Asher, my second novel by her and yes, I can say the story kept me alive through the entire story. "Ridiculously Amazing Zahra" is completely clueless about how her life is going to get affected by the new director at Dreamland. Is she even concerned about who the new director is - actually not. It is no where close to her circle of concern to even think about it. With real low wages and a good-for-nothing medical insurance failing to deter her passion of working at Dreamland, she is her own sunshine; like we say 'carries her weather' wherever she goes and puts in all her heart at the salon in dressing up children at Dreamland. "Ridiculously Impossible Rowan" is a billionaire in shock after his grandpa Brady's death and has agreed to take up the role of a Director at Dreamland only because the letter in the Will of his Grandpa requires hi...
