"He can't have her...But he's taking her anyway"
Twisted Games by Ana Huang
Second Book in the Twisted Series and I can't wait to read the third and fourth books in this series. Yes, the stories are undoubtedly intriguing and engaging. If Ana Chen and Alex Volkov's story was captivating and revetting Bridget Ascheberg and Rhys Larsen's romance has been entralling and beguiling. Not so uncommon of a young girl falling for her daily close acquaintance in the form of a bodyguard; but the way the plot is knit and the characters layered out keeps the reader on hooks at all times. Bridget is one of Ana's university friend who is also a Princess of Eldorra studying in the free world in Thayer away from the chains of royalty at Eldorra. She is regal, gracefully strong-willed, intelligent, animal-lover and a grounded personality. Rhys Larsen is the new American Bodyguard appointed by the royal kingdom to replace Booth. Rhys is an Ex-Navy Seal, brave, broody and arrogant to the core. It was glaringly evident from their very first meet that Bridget and Rhys are going to have an unusually diificult relationship as a Princess and her bodyguard. For Bridget it was like being locked up under the open sky with such an adamant and stubborn bodyguard who would not compromise a wee-bit on her security by allowing her to go places of her whims.
But this strangely hot and cold relationship very gradually and quite naturally develops into one of the most strangely exotic romance between the two. Though, both had been clearly attracted towards each-other since their very first meeting, they were so strong-headed that would not budge a bit to leave their stand to give way to their physical attraction to take over their heads. But finally comes a day, which incidently coincides with Bridget's last day at New York before moving to Eldorra forever when in the heat of the moment the jealous Rhys not only saves Bridget from fucking up with a womanizer Vincent Hauz, but also gave a hint of his feelings towards her in an excessively subtle way.
Over the time, the most sensual relationship manifests and is moreover too exciting because of the taboos that are a sure thing in a sensual romantic relationship between a Princess about to be crowned the Queen of Eldorra and her Bodyguard. The law is not going to allow them to live together, to quote Bridget's words to Rhys "You don't get it. There's no happily ever after for us. We aren't a fairytle...we are a forbidden love letter..."
Rhys who had never in his life loved or been loved was not going to back-off by any means and thus resolutely responds to Bridget by saying, "I told you, you're mine, and I'm not letting you go. I don't care if the entire Eldorran Military tries to drag me away."
So, what happened to Bridget and Rhys's love story? Did it manifest as per their desire? Did the future Queen surrender to the law to gain the throne or gave up her royalty to go on the path of love? Reading the book is what is going to be an experience in itself. If you are someone who enjoys and appreciates pieces of art, I assure you of you getting the worth of your time. The characters, the story-telling, the vivid descriptions, the expressions, the feelings and emotions - all are depicted in the most engaing pieces of narratives, such that the senses naturally create visuals and the events keep unnerving you even when you are off the book.
I would like to conclude quoting the Queen of Eldorra - Bridget, "Did I feel like the weight of the world was on my shoulders sometimes? Yes. Did I get angry, frustrated, and stressed? Yes. But so did a lot of people. The important thing was, I no longer felt trapped. I'd learned to master my circumstances instead of letting them master me..."
Happy Reading!!!
